JERSEY HUMAN RIGHTS GROUP
Hello Everybody.
Members of the group may recall that at our recent meeting I agreed to provide a brief resume of Human Rights issues that may have been raised at States assemblies.
It is my intention to refer you all to States documents as much as possible, to this end may I ask you to minimise this page and then open your web browser and go to http://www.statesassembly.gov.je/frame.asp look along the top line and click on Hansard and then 6th July 2010.
In this report the first mention of Human Rights is in a Written Question from Deputy M Tadier regarding the issue of warrant cards so please go back to Hansard and click on 2.18 in the top bit (written in blue). As you discover the answer is a bit of a cop out and it is referred back to the Attorney General.
His response is here: - 3.16. There is a short debate, we may choose to talk about this matter at our next meeting, and I for one have reservations about lawmakers who are not 'working Honorary Police' having warrant cards.
Second mention of Human Rights (HR) comes when Senator Shenton is questioning the Planning Minister here 3.7
Third mention comes in a debate proposed by Deputy Higgins, but first I ask that you read his Proposition so please go back to http://www.statesassembly.gov.je/frame.asp scroll along the top line click on propositions scroll down to 2010 and read 71 and 71Com. Then back click to Hansard only this time to the 7th July 2010.
Still with me?? Thanks!!!
In the blue writing click on 2. What follows is a very interesting debate on H/R issues. The input from the Attorney General is interesting, several members joined in, States members from our group were prominent. In my view the best airing of H/R issues this session!
That's it for this report.
